Event description
Bishops' House presents three unique acts that promise to capture the heart and imagination.

About this Event

Joni Tuson is an incredibly gifted singer songwriter currently living in West Yorkshire; originally hailing from South Africa. She cites her influences as George Oryema, Baba Maal, Joni Mitchell, Eryka Badu, Kelly Joe Phelps and Cassandra Wilson amongst others.

Joni has performed with many bands ranging in genre from soul, ska, funk and folk rock. Most recently she was part of Sheffield's premier soul and funk party band, Papa Soul, to whom Joni lent her amazing powerhouse lead vocals.

She will be bringing a pure, stripped down evening of solo acoustic music to Bishops' House and promises a beguiling mix of tranquillity and passion. The night will see her perform a combination of original material and covers. This will be an evening of charm and surprises.

Drawing from alt-country, bluegrass and the folk canon of an 'old, weird America', Rainy Day Woman play sparse, unhurried folk music. Releasing their second EP ‘Home’ in January 2020, the young duo have been playing their unique songs - complete with desire, betrayal, pub lore and feminist rage - to audiences in the UK and Australia.Rainy Day Woman have been gigging around the UK since 2016, with notable past shows including London Folkroom, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Coventry’s Big Comfy Bookshop and Sofar Sounds shows in London, Bristol and Birmingham. Autumn 2019 saw their first Australian tour, including dates at Sydney’s Humph Hall and Canberra’s Smith’s Alternative.

“A genuine joy live, Rainy Day Woman’s music is bright, light and effortlessly gorgeous. Hannah and Gabriel pull off something magical every time... A real joy to watch, without fail.” Folkroom Records, London
