Garden & Botanical Journals
Starting a Garden Notebook
Working in any little A6 notebook or journal insert that you should choose to bring along, this workshop will focus on how to set up your own Garden or Botanical journal.
This journal workshop is specifically aimed at encouraging us all to get outdoors more; to enjoy our local woodlands & parks and to celebrate nature within our own gardens! Let's try to take a little more notice of the beautiful local flora that surrounds us every day, and take heart from the miniature works of art growing courageously beneath our feet throughout each and every season.
Bring a handful of little flowers or leaf stems with you to this workshop, either freshly picked or already recently pressed (beneath a couple of heavy books will do) and then learn a little about what you find and record the information. Suzanna will also bring along a few extra flowers from her garden for everyone to add to their own collections if they wish.
Suzanna also has a personal collection of botany books that she will bring along, providing the opportunity to be able to identify everyone's findings. There will also be a pre-selected stack of library books available on both botanical reference and on biographies of famous botanists and their journals, in order to gain additional inspiration.
Over the course of the morning, Suzanna will share different ways to display the botanical pressings in their best light and also explore different ways to label them. There will be various extra decorative elements and details to add, that will further enhance the pages.
Pages will be created for future days and months, to record how the seasons change and what can be found on future seasonal foraging walks.
As always, a little ephemera pack will be provided on the day, to get your new project up and running. If you don't have a suitable notebook, you are welcome to purchase a Wild Scribe mini journal insert from Suzanna on the day for an additional cash payment of £5.
At the end of the session you will take away an Information sheet and the remaining contents of your ephemera pack, plus your little decorated journal, prepped and ready to add your future findings, memories and ephemera at home.
