Event description
An art exhibition that demonstrates that behind every prisoner’s conviction and sentence is a personal story of love, hope and loss.

About this Event

Join with others Tuesday 17 December at St George’s Church, Stockport to give thanks to God for the individuals who have shared their personal story through the power of art.

Journey into Light is an art exhibition made up of over 40 individual pieces created by prisoners at HMP Styal and HMP Thorn Cross, Cheshire.

The aim of the exhibition is to demonstrate to visitors that behind every prisoner’s conviction and sentence is a personal story of love, hope and loss.

When we launched Journey into Light in October 2018, we quickly saw the positive impact it would have.

On the opening night at Chester Cathedral, as guests walked around the exhibition, some were moved to tears as they read the stories behind the artwork and allowed themselves to be transformed in their understanding of what it means to be a prisoner.

Since then, it has been very well received by parishes across the Diocese of Chester. By the time of the final exhibition, 40 parishes will have hosted Journey into Light and an estimated 6000 people will have viewed it. This is a great achievement for all involved.

Guests to the event will be treated to music, carols, and canapes at what it is hoped will be a joyful and hopeful finale to Journey into Light.
