Event description
Joy in Weaving- 10-week collaborative workshop.

About this Event

Joygun Nehar is a British Bangladeshi Textile Designer raised in Camden, central London. Joygun’s work celebrates her experiences of living between the borders of two cultures and by her childhood memories of her mother feeling homesick and longing for her homeland and sewing ‘Nakshi Kantha’; which is a Bangladeshi century old quilting embroidery technique. She was inspired and her fascination for textiles was seeded. Joygun specialised in woven Textiles graduating from Central Saint Martins as a mature student. From there on she started working with other educational institutions and created community workshops. Through her work she has always been drawn to making and playing with unusual materials and keeping craftsmanship, recycling at the core of what she does.

Joy will be running a 10 week collaborative workshop, where you'll explore different textiles, making your own small frame loom, learning the basics weaving on and off a table loom and you'll work together to create a collaborative piece of woven artwork to be exhibited locally in Somers Town.

The workshop will encourage local people to come and experience the joy in weaving on and off loom and exchange stories and experiences of textiles.

We look forward to seeing you at MAKE, we have a limited space so please sign up for a space on this very special workshop.
