Event description

Description

Drums. Bass. Guitars. Keyboards and lots more. In this month's Code Club we'll show you how to code instruments, set up beats and create a musical masterpieces using Sonic Pi.

How Code Club works

We run monthly "clubs" where up to 30 kids can learn new skills and technologies, from web coding and programming, to electronics and manufacturing. No coding experience necessary. And no special equipment required.

Our clubs are always free, and always staffed by experienced, friendly, DBS/CRB-checked volunteers. We’re kindly hosted by Liverpool Libraries, and we’re part of the All About STEM network.

Who this is for

Our July session is designed for kids aged 8–12 years – regardless of whether they’ve ever done any programming before.

We’ll show them all the basics in the first hour, then after a short break, we’ll let them experiment with what they’ve learned, and build something amazing, either individually, or as part of a team.

What they’ll learn

We’ll introduce the kids to Sonic Pi’s Ruby-based programming language, and its extensive suite of musical functions, showing them how to construct and iterate complex songs and musical arrangements. Music is a fantastic way to introduce core programming concepts like loops, functions, conditions, and repetition, which will come in useful no matter what language you end up using in the future.

How to book onto this event
