About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Returning to work following a period of maternity leave can be a nerve-wracking experience, exacerbated by the emotions surrounding leaving a small baby for the first time.

But with our 90 minute workshop, we'll get you feeling confident and prepared for your return!

As well as detailing key legal information and sharing expectations of best practice, you'll benefit from a coaching-style approach giving you the headspace to consider what you need now, the boundaries you can set, what you want your life to look like as a parent-teacher, and the chance to share tips to get organised at home and at school.

You'll have the chance to meet other parent-teachers in the same position as you, and share support and encouragement.

Funding

Workshop places are fully-funded for state-school colleagues in England thanks to support from our regional school, MAT and TSH partners. Please do thank your local organisation on social media for their support.

With thanks to Leicestershire and Rutland TSH, Central London TSH, Wandle TSH, Pathfinder TSH, Saffron TSH, Unity TSH, SWIFT, The Balcarras Trust, Pate's Grammar School, the OneCornwall Teaching School Hub Partnership, OTSA, The Julian TSH, Swindon and Wiltshire TSH, Alban TSH, Potentia TSH, Spencer TSH, Northamptonshire TSH, Chafford Hundred TSH, Bright Futures TSH, East Manchester TSH, One Cumbria TSH, Chiltern Teaching School, Star TSH, Generate TSH, Tudor Grange TSH, Arthur Terry TSH, Embrace TSH, GLF West Sussex TSH, Northern Lights TSH, Three Rivers TSH, London District East TSH, STEP Ahead TSH and John Taylor TSH for making these places available in their regions.

FAQs

  • I'm a father - am I allowed to come?

100% yes. This workshop is for anyone who has taken a caring-related career break and is stepping back into school. Take advantage of the promo code DAD23 and then tell all of your friends who have taken shared parental leave or extended paternity leave that support is available from The MTPT Project!

  • My baby will be with me... is this okay?

Fantastic - we can't wait to meet them. Babies make fantastic thinking partners and are what make MTPT Project sessions so special!

In case they also monopolise your hands during the session, we suggest using the voice notes app on your phone to complete some of the coaching activities, or make a note of any key reflections, information or follow up actions.

  • What if I'm already back at work: is the workshop still relevant?

If you have only recently returned to work (i.e. within the last half term) and can attend the workshop live, then it will still be very helpful for you as you settle into a routine as a parent-teacher.

  • This is my second / third etc. return to work: is the workshop still relevant?

Our most bittersweet phrase at The MTPT Project is 'I wish I'd known about you on my first parental leave!' The workshop is packed with information and the opportunity to get a bit of headspace, valuable to all returners whether this is your first or tenth baby!

  • Is the workshop relevant to TAs / support staff?

Yes! There are some legal nuances related to your contracts, but the workshop is helpful for all parents working in education.

  • Can I use KIT / SPLIT days to fund the workshop?

Yes, and we strongly encourage you to do so if you don't qualify for a funded place! Your KIT / SPLIT days have to be mutually agreed, but using a KIT / SPLIT day to attend the workshop and implement any follow up actions is a great way of keeping in touch with your work identity and transitioning back into the classroom.

Just show your HR Manager the Eventbrite confirmation when you claim your KIT / SPLIT day as evidence of attendance.

  • I'm looking for the June workshop.

  • I'd like to book a number of colleagues in my school / organisation onto the workshop all in one go.

Brilliant - when we receive a booking for two or more tickets, we'll get in touch to request your colleagues' email addresses to request further information from them and share joining details for the event. Please ensure that you can share these email addresses with us without breaching GDPR and inform your colleagues of which email address these details will be sent to.

Tickets are limited to 5 per order - if you want to support more than 5 colleagues with this workshop, email Emma on mtptproject@gmail.com to make a group booking, or to set up a promo code for future workshops.
