What can we learn from others about problem solving? This month’s Book Club focuses on tapping into all the guidance about how we solve problems – what works, what doesn’t, and what can we take away and apply to our own work.

How can the words of wisdom from others shape our approach, help us to be more effective, or potentially develop our mindset and skill set? The resources for this month’s book club seek to teach us the tips and tricks, to develop a deeper understanding about how we think about problems, and how we work to overcome them. Dip into any of the below resources and join us in a friendly group discussion.

About the Book Club

A flexible Book Club with a twist!

We appreciate not everyone has time to read 300-400 pages a month, so rather than dedicate each Book Club meeting to a specific book, we’re assigning a specific topic to each meeting with suggested readings, podcast/audio and video resources.

Our Book Club @ The Hub is part of the SSC Startup Sunderland enterprise engagement programme and provides a range of traditional book options as well as podcasts, short videos and articles to support participants to meet like-minded peers, and develop themselves, their skillset, mindset. Resources will follow the following formats:

- short reads (articles)

- long reads (books less than 300 pages)

- quick listens (podcasts)

- featured films (Ted Talks or other videos less than 30 mins long)

You can pick and mix what materials you engage with. Flexibility and inclusivity are at the core of our book club. If you have time for a long read, fantastic - go for it! If you have time for 2 podcasts and a short read, great! Likewise, if you’d like to attend and participate in the discussion without having had the time to engage with the suggested resources, that’s fine too — everyone’s welcome! The Book Club @ The Hub will take place every month on Zoom.
