Mahjong is a timeless tile-based game that has been played across Asia for over 300 years and is now gaining global popularity. Unlike poker, where you recognise the cards instantly, Mahjong requires learning the tiles and rules before you can play—and that’s where many beginners struggle.

We’ve often heard how friends and family don’t always have the patience to teach every detail, and after hours of trying, beginners still feel confused about the game.

Ready to Play!

In this Newbie workshop, you’ll start playing right away! We’ll introduce you to the tiles, sets, and winning hands while guiding you through the basic rules and game rhythm. By the end of this session, we can guarantee that everyone who comes will learn how to play, and feel confident and ready to play Mahjong with others.

There are three tables, if you are new to Mahjong this is the right workshop for you, otherwise take a look at the none-newbie event for the other two types of table tickets.

🔹 Level 2 Learner Table – For players learning to score and improve gameplay
🔹 Just Play Table – For players who just want to enjoy playing games without instructor

A Social Game in a Social Space

Mahjong isn’t just about strategy—it’s about bringing people together. Our workshop offers a fun, welcoming space where you can meet new people, have a great time and maybe even organise future game nights together! We love seeing friendships blossom over Mahjong.

Workshop Details

Two Time Slots: 1:00-3:00pm & 3:30-5:30pm

Where: Dear Asia in Aldgate Tower 4th Floor

Who: New beginners to Mahjong, come alone or come with your friends / family

How much: £36 for two hours

Important Notes

1. Each attendee must be registered to our building in addition to the Eventbrite ticketing. If you book two tickets, we will need both individuals' full names and email addresses for registration. Please email it to: hello@dearasia.co.uk
2. There may be times when we don’t have four players per level. In such cases, we’ll combine players across levels to ensure a full game, with guidance from our instructor of course.
