Event description

Description

This is the eighth in a series of Jung-Lacan Dialogues organised by the Jung/Lacan Research Network based at the Centre for Psychoanalysis, Middlesex University. It aims at fostering an engagement between two important and creative schools of psychoanalysis. What is the common ground between them? What are the intractable differences? Is it possible to find a common language or achieve mutual understandings? And what are the implications for clinical practice?

THE POSITION OF THE ANALYST

Is there any commonality between Jung’s idea of the role of the analyst and Lacan’s notion of the position of the analyst? And what are the specifics of the differences between these two important clinical concepts? Berjanet Jazani and David Henderson will elaborate the history and development of the terms and reflect on the implications for clinical work.

Dr. Berjanet Jazani is a psychoanalyst, practicing in London. She is an analyst member of the Centre for Freudian Analysis & Research, where she teaches and supervises clinicians and candidates in training. She is a regular contributor to the online publication of the Iranian Medical Council in the field of mental health. Forthcoming publications include: 'A Resident of the World’ and ‘La Silence de la mer(e)’ JCFAR 2018

David Henderson, MA (Essex), PhD (London) is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice and a senior lecturer in psychoanalysis at the Centre for Psychoanalysis, Middlesex University. His research interests include comparative psychoanalytic theory and apophatic discourse. Recent publications include, 'Staying alive: Anima and objet a,' in Re-encountering Jung: Analytical psychology and contemporary psychoanalysis (Routledge, 2017) and 'A life free from care: The hermit and the analyst' (Psychodynamic Practice, 2016)
