About this event
Booking for all of our Learning for Leisure courses is via our Eventbrite pages. If you are no longer able to attend a course, we may be able to refund the course cost up to 7 days before the course start date. We will retain up to 10% of the payment to cover costs incurred by us.
We reserve the right for refunds to be issued by cheque.

Are you feeling in need of something creative to support your mental health? Would you like to learn more about making a journal? Junk journaling has become really popular in recent years. It is a way of exploring your own creativity and making themed journals that you can use for a range of things – photos, mementos, images, sketches, affirmations, poetry… the list is endless!

This course is for:
This course is aimed at anyone who wants to improve their mental health through doing something creative and through crafting, learning new skills along the way. No experience is necessary as the tutor will demonstrate.
You will learn:
You will learn how to put ideas together to make a journal. Your tutor will show you some completed journals and some ideas for your own journals. You will put together an ideas board that you can then carry through into your own journaling journey. Six week courses in Junk Journaling will commence in September.
The course will cover:
• What junk journaling is
• Ideas for junk journals
• Looking at some completed journals
• Themes for journals
• Materials needed
• Making an ideas board
This is a classroom based course which will provide an opportunity for you to learn more about junk journaling in a friendly, sociable environment.
You will be given the support you require for your individual development.
There are no exams or formal assessments.
You will be able to ask questions at any point and put what you learn into practice.
Work outside of sessions:
This is not required, though we hope you will want to put what you have learned into practice in the future.
Additional costs and what to prepare:
This course is offered free of charge and there are no other costs.
Progression from this course:
You may wish to progress to one to one of our six week junk journaling courses to begin in September. Or, you may wish to try one of our other non-vocational classes, for example: floristry, sewing or pottery. Alternatively, we offer vocational courses for digital skills, English and maths. You can move on to any of the vocational courses after attending a Making Choices course at one of the centres.

Course fees explained
Some of our courses are free of charge. Others have a full fee and a lower ‘concessions’ rate for those on certain benefits. This may vary from course to course so please ask when enquiring about a particular course. For many of our learning for leisure courses we use three different fee bands:
Fee A: Full fee
Fee B: Derbyshire Gold cards holders
Fee C: Concessions for those on certain benefits/allowances – details are on our How to fund your learning page.
There may be additional costs on some courses for materials please ask for details.
If selecting one of the reduced rates, you will be asked to show proof of entitlement when attending course.
Booking:
A booking fee is charged by Eventbrite for each booking, this is retained by Eventbrite and included in the advertised fee. Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service receive the course fee.
