This circular route features towering sea cliffs, historic quarries, and wildlife-rich grasslands.

Centuries of stone quarrying have shaped this landscape, leaving behind striking sea quarries like Dancing Ledge. Along the way, you’ll discover hidden coves, panoramic clifftop views, and fascinating stories embedded in the rocks.

Your guide is Sam Scriven, Principal Officer and Geologist for the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, who will bring Dorset’s geological past to life with expert insight and storytelling. Sam will also be joined by the South West Coast Path Association to share the history of the South West Coast Path along the way!

What to Expect

The circular walking route will include stops at Dancing Ledge and Winspit Quarry.
A stop at the Square and Compass Pub and Fossil Museum at Worth Matravers.
Returning to the meeting place at Spyway car park.

Difficulty: Moderate
Terrain includes uneven paths, steep sections, stiles, and gates.
Sturdy footwear (boots or trail shoes) recommended.
Dogs welcome, but must be kept under close control near cliffs and livestock.

Bookings close on Friday 19 Sept at 12 noon - if there are still spaces left you can sign up on the day at the Dorset Coast Forum gazebo on Shore Road from 10am on 20 Sept.
