IMPORTANT: This workshop requires you to have completed one of our ‘introduction to woodturning’ courses and/or have done some turning within the past 5 years.
Through this intermediate-level class, you will take the next step on your turning journey and develop your woodturning skills and techniques, specifically those involved in bowl turning. We will aim to turn a complete wooden bowl / plant pot holder in the course of the evening, though it is possible that some folk may not finish the bowl in the time available; if this happens there are various ways to arrange a time to come back and finish it, so not to worry! (Read on for details…)
We will provide all the tools, PPE and the bowl blanks, though if anyone has a bowl blank of their own they wish to bring in then by all means do so; however we do stipulate no woods which produce toxic dust – generally this refers to yew and/or any dark tropical hardwoods. Other domestic hardwoods are fine.
We have four wood lathes, and you will be working individually with the support of our class teacher.
Non-ETL members are welcome!
This class counts as a lathe induction, meaning that if you are already an ETL member (or if you sign up for membership after this class), you will be able to use the lathes whenever you come along to Tool Library open sessions (so long as the workshop lead is happy with this at the time). That way, you can easily finish off your bowl in your own time if you don’t manage to complete it in this session!
