Just Listening: A Just,Dialogical Approach in Listening to A Person's Story
Overview
The workshop will explore the Just Listening approach, providing an overview of the core theories and moments of connection that lead to a just process of listening to any person who wishes to share their story of being in the world.
The workshop will also detail the impact of providing an entire 'mental health' therapeutic community and health services based on the psychotherapeutically informed Just Listening approach especially to those in psychotic or suicidal dissociachotic states.
Learning Objective Participants Can Expect From This Event
- Understand the potential outcomes in challenging social constructs and norms of psychotic and suicidal states of distress as disorders and internal (individual brain) problems.
- Develop awareness of the mutual impact of focussing on connection and justice as an alternative to 'interventions'.
- Develop understanding of the potential in developing new models and approaches for entire health services that include building community members involvement in supporting other community members.

This event will be hosted on the Zoom meeting platform where we will use our cameras and microphones to interact with each other as a group.

Matt Ball
Matts primary interest is in being with persons understandable human experiences, often labelled as mental illness, and holding space for the wisdom of each person to both narrate and direct their own journey.
Matt is a Nurse Practitioner, Psychotherapist and founder of Humane Clinic, and Co Director of Just Listening Australia. He is a trainer and public speaker, and developer of Dissociachotic, Suicide Narratives and Just Listening approaches. He recently opened the Just Listening Therapeutic Community with colleagues.
Matt's passion is being in human-to-human relationship with those in altered states in acknowledgement of the non-psychotic states any person experiences.
Matt teaches, consults, supervises and speaks nationally and internationally.
