JUSTICE CUTS: THE STORIES BEHIND THE NUMBERS

EVENT UPDATE: CBA VICE CHAIR CAROLINE GOODWIN QC TO JOIN THE PANEL

The human cost of the cuts made to our system of justice have still not fully been understood, particularly by those in Government.

Whilst there is no shortage of advocacy papers or raw statistics on the impact of the cuts, more of us – particularly those in Westminster and Whitehall - need to hear the stories behind those numbers.

We are now five years post-LASPO and remarkably little is known about how people manage when they cannot properly access our system of justice.

Charities, front-line service providers and members of the Bar deal with some of the most vulnerable in society. This event is an opportunity for them to share their experiences of what the LASPO cuts have meant to the people they see and help every day.

Members of the audience will also be invited to bring forward their stories and will hear exclusively the results of Bar Council research into the cuts that our justice system has endured.

The agenda:

18:15 – 18:30 – Registration

18:30 – 19:15 – Panel discussion

19:15 – 19:30 – Q&A

19:30 – 20:30 – Reception

Speakers:

- Andrew Walker QC, Chair of the Bar (Chair)

- Caroline Goodwin QC, CBA Vice Chair, Trinity Chambers

- Shiva Ancliffe, Coram Chambers

- Tom Royston, Garden Court North

- Fiona Scolding QC, Landmark Chambers
