The acclaimed chef and writer behind Korean Soul Food gives a talk (with samples to taste!) in the Cookery Department at Foyles about K-Quick, her latest acclaimed cookbook.
Judy Joo is the chef behind TV shows Judy Joo’s Return to Korea and Korean Food Made Simple and cookbooks Korean Soul Food and K-Quick: Korean Food in 30 Minutes or Less. In 2014, Judy opened her first restaurant, Jinjuu, in Soho, London, showcasing modern Korean cuisine. Since then she has launched Seoul Bird, a new venture specializing in the Korean fried chicken, with restaurants in London, Edinburgh and New York.
Judy’s cooking is focused on the flavours of her childhood – raised in a Korean-American family in New Jersey, her back porch was lined with her mother’s ceramic pots, filled with fermenting kimchi, gochujang, and doenjang. The house’s garage had racks of drying seaweed, and a small Korean barbecue grill tucked in the corner. Judy and her sister were often drafted to help stuff hundreds of dumplings. Her multicultural heritage and training are evident in her dishes today: from ‘disco fries’ influenced by New Jersey highway diners and topped with spicy cabbage kimchi, to classic French pastries that incorporate traditional Korean ingredients.
At this event in the Cookery Department at Foyles, Judy will be sharing her unique approach to Korean food and recounting her experiences working at the top of the culinary field.
The talk will be followed by a book signing. Complimentary nibbles and refreshments will be available at the event. Please note that this is a standing event, with limited seating available.
