Event description

Description

Part of The Crossmodalist Cabaret

STIMMUNG: The controversial, seminal, and epoch-defining work by 20th century composer, Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Stockhausen was a major figure in the development of electronic avant-garde music throughout the 1950's, leading the way in aleatoric music (controlled chance), spiritual music, serial composition, and music spatialisation - integrating aspects of Dadaism and Post-Nationalism

Stimmung (Tuning): is the first major Western composition to be based entirely on the production of vocal harmonics, the first to use overtones as a primary element, and is an example of the unique kind of rhythmic polyphony which arises from the gradual transformation/assimilation of rhythmic models. Stimmung translates into tuning, but does not refer exclusively to sound, but to the tuning of a piano, the tuning of a voice, the tuning of a group of people, the tuning of the soul.

Six singers. Six microphones. One definitive performance.

Make sure to come earlier to enjoy a drink from the Negroni Bar. This event is part of The Crossmodalist Cabaret (May 19th-21st, 2017).
