At the time when the virtues of femininity were very much on the minds of many Victorians, Kate Webster was very much a career criminal. Anne Marie Kilday, Professor of Criminology at Oxford Brookes University follows her transformation from a petty miscreant to the bloodthirsty murderer of her mistress Julia Thomas in 1879, a crime whose wickedness terrorised Victorian society.
