About this event

Inspired by Lord Shiva and the meditative Raga Malkauns, this solo Kathak piece weaves together Nritta (pure rhythmic dance), Nritya (expressive storytelling), and Natya (dramatic portrayal). It is a seamless blend of intricate footwork, emotive gestures, and theatrical depth—invoking devotion, transformation, and the timeless spirit of classical dance.

Smt. Paromita Bhattacharya is a well-acclaimed dynamic Kathak Dancer, choreographer, and educator from Kolkata, India. Rooted in a musical lineage — daughter of sarod maestro Pandit Debasish Bhattacharya — she began her Kathak journey at the age of four under Guru Amita Dutt. Her artistry continues to evolve under the refined mentorship of Guru Vidushi Madhumita Roy.

Paromita has had the rare privilege of learning from the legendary late Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj through workshops for over 15 years. She also takes talim from Guru Vidushi Saswati Sen, whose training continues to shape her expressive and rhythmic depth.

A Master degree in Dance from Rabindra Bharati University, Paromita is the artistic director at Upaj Dance Academy. She has performed at major festivals across India and internationally, including in the UK, Australia, Nepal, and Bangladesh, representing the grace and strength of the Lucknow gharana of Kathak.
