Event description

Description

Professor Christian Kay enriched the department of English Language at the University of Glasgow for 47 years, and leaves us all a tremendous intellectual legacy, not only in the form of the one-of-a-kind Historical Thesaurus of English, which she saw completed in 2009, but also in a variety of other subjects from corpus linguistics to colour studies. This one-day symposium celebrates Professor Kay's life and work with wide-ranging talks on the meaning and history of the English language from fourteen international speakers. Our aim is to honour Christian's enthusiastic involvement in so many fields by hosting papers by a selection of her friends and colleagues who share that enthusiasm.

Please register for Kay Day by clicking the 'Tickets' button to the right. The registration fee is a contribution towards catering costs. You may also make an optional donation. All funds received as a donation will be placed directly into the Historical Thesaurus Scholarship and Prize Fund (for details see: glasgow.ac.uk/thesaurus). For those for whom the £10 registration fee would cause potential challenges, please contact arts-thesauri@glasgow.ac.uk.
