About this event

Keeping Chickens

Ready to start your own backyard flock?

Jon from Sow the City will guide you through all the joys and responsibilities of raising chickens. We'll begin with the basics, helping you choose the best breeds for your needs and design a safe, functional coop.

You'll get hands-on experience with daily care, learn about essential equipment, and develop the skills to monitor your birds' health. We'll also explore chicken anatomy and behavior, teach you safe handling techniques, and provide you with a solid foundation in preventative care and common diseases.

This is the ideal course for anyone who wants to confidently raise chickens for fresh eggs, improved garden soil, or simple companionship.

This event is part of Growing Manchester, the city's community food growing program. Funded by Manchester City Council and delivered by Sow the City, Growing Manchester supports a network of over 150 growing communities throughout the city.
