Event description
The first of three deep dives into the troubled spirit of our age with celebrated storyteller, mythologist and teacher Dr Martin Shaw.

About this event

Growing Our Hands Back, the first of three day-long gatherings with Dr Martin Shaw, will contemplate how, after being told to touch nothing for a year, we begin to grow our own hands back. How do we move back out into the world in a new way?

This conference will mark the planned easing of Covid-19 restrictions and the timely launch of Martin's latest book Smoke Hole: Looking to the Wild in the Time of the Spyglass, written over lockdown from his cottage on Dartmoor.

The book gives us three stories, three navigational tools, to offer a different kind of perspective on the times we’re in.

Each of the days is a stand alone event, though with enough continuity to pick up the threads of the gathering before. As well as witnessing the high drama of a story masterfully told, you will get the chance to learn some story-carrying skill and explore how ancient myth could be speaking directly to the conditions of your life.
