In this illustrated talk Newcastle author Ken Smith will spotlight the lives of famed North-East engineers George Stephenson and his son, Robert.

George is generally regarded as the leading pioneer of the steam locomotive and railways and Robert was the designer of the High Level Bridge across the Tyne as well as the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick. Both rose from humble origins on the banks of the Tyne to become key figures in the history of engineering.
