Event description

Description

A guided Sunday morning stroll. We will be joined by Joel Diggle, who served for 22 years in the Royal Air Force and Army Air Corps, completing tours in Bosnia, Canada, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands and Northern Ireland.

During his tine in the RAF, Joel was recognised for organising memorials at several Battle of Britain crash sites and North Weald airfield. Since he returned to civilian life, he has continued his research into the less well-known "Few" and is writing a book to be published in 2020.

Naturally, our tour will concentrate on the Battle of Britain period and the role Kenley Sector's pilots played during this pivotal moment in our country's history.

The tour will take approximately two and a half hours starting at and returning to Portcullis Field. The length of the route is approximately two miles. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for walking. Surfaces may be uneven or slippery.

There are no toilets or refreshments available on the airfield. However, the Royal Air Force Association Portcullis Club will be open when we return from our tour. Guests can purchase drinks from the bar, have a look at the Club's collection of memorabilia and pictures and use the club's facilities.

In the event of bad weather, we will be hosting an informal talk in the Portcullis Club.
