Event description
This course, from a stimulating and original artist and tutor, will encourage the students to use their imagination in their compositions.

About this Event

Colourfully Draped Figure (outdoors weather permitting):

The Course

This two-day workshop will give students an opportunity to explore mixed media painting based on the colourfully draped figure. During the course of the weekend workshop students will be encouraged to use their imagination to abstract their compositions to find a tension between a representation of the sitter in their environment, and one's own colourful sense of self-expression. Students will work on studies and sketches before building up a larger scale (A1) painting. The workshop will start with a short introductory talk using images as examples especially from artists of the early C20th like Albert Gleizes, Jean Metzinger, Jacque Villon, and Picasso amongst others. There will be demonstrations by the tutor where required. This is a workshop suited to all levels of experience.

All necessary materials will be provided and light lunches and refreshments will be available. Please notify us at time of booking if you have any dietary requirements.

Kenneth lives and works in Forres, Northern Scotland and teaches peripatetically as well as a Studio Practice Course for artists at the Moray Art Centre.

Art Statement:

There are two related strands in Kenneth's artwork: observation and imagination. They inform each other.

The observational work is figurative often depicting the experience of painting or drawing itself and its process of creating.

The second strand is of imaginary spaces and forms using perspective and, sometimes, arbitrarily constructed

symbols, like letters, arrows, arches, aqueducts and animals.

Both strands are concerned with the relationship between the abstract surface and the illusion. Overall a theme of latency pervades and the tension between form and completion is intrinsic to the work.

Within each work there is vulnerability where a thing's existence could still be taken away from it.
