Description

Kenny Hunter will discuss his practice as an artist in relation to the life and work of Robert Burns. Looking at shared areas of interest such as history, politics and the natural world. In particular the use of animal forms or symbols as a narrative device to address human concerns and issues.

Kenny Hunter Biography: Born in Edinburgh in 1962, Kenny Hunter studied sculpture at Glasgow School of Art between 1983 and 1987. He has exhibited extensively in Britain and Abroad including solo exhibitions at Tramway, 2008 and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 2006. High profile, public commissioned works include; iGoat, 2010, Spitalfields, London and Citizen Firefighter, 2001, outside Glasgow’s Central Station. In 2016 he completed a large frieze for Leicester Square, London, entitled Blackbird (the persistence of vision). Hunter is Programme Director of Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. His work is represented by Galerie Scheffel in Germany and Connersmith in the USA.

Burns Unbroke is a new contemporary multi-arts festival celebrating new interpretations of the life and work of Robert Burns at Summerhall between the 25 January - 10 March 2018. Throughout the festival there will be a series of artist talks giving insight into their practice and relationship to the life and work of Burns. Burns Unbroke is a partnership between Artruist - Independent Art Consultancy and Summerhall, it is supported by Creative Scotland, Burns Night - Scotland's Winter Festivals and Arran Whisky.
