Sat 16 July 2016, 10:00 – 17:00 BST
KENYA PICNIC FUN DAY IN THE FARM– Free event with free barbecue and fun activities for family (open for all)!!!
Mojatu Foundation in collaboration with Ecocentre Community Care Farm and the Kenya Nottinghamshire Welfare Association (KNWA) invites you to the 3rd annual Kenya FUN Day in the Farm!
This event has also been supported by the Office of the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner, The Nottingham City Council, Nottingham Women's Centre and the Big Lottery.
Majority of the Kenyan and other African communities living in the UK come from a farming background. We rarely have an opportunity to visit farms in UK and see what they have to offer and also reconnect with a similar environment that we grew up in.
The Ecocentre's owner, David Rose, fell in love with Kenya when he visited with his family and since then, he has been keen on connecting the Kenyan and other African communities with the Community Farm and to explore and share good practice in farming that could facilitate mutual learning for UK and African farmers. Since visiting Kenya, David has been supporting Children's Health And Development In Kenya (CHADIK) and now supports the Mojatu Foundation work.
Projects to own an animal, adopt a tree and working on allotments will be discussed.
Since attending a Female Genital Mutilation conference organized by Mojatu in February 2015, he made a commitment to support the Mojatu End FGM Campaign and has since designated an area on the farm for raising awareness where different individuals and organisations have been planting trees to support the campaign. More information on this project will be discussed on the day.
Last year, over 200 people from all walks of life and different cultures flocked the farm to enjoy a fun day in the farm. The feedback was overwhelming and most people commended the organisers for an informative, educative and fun day for their families. They recommended to continue having it as an annual event!
The day will be full of fun activities for all: BRING YOUR PICNIC AND WE WILL PROVIDE FREE ‘NYAMA CHOMA’ (KENYAN BARBECUE).
