Event description
Author Kerry Hudson talks about her latest book, Lowborn.

About this Event

Journalist and author Kerry Hudson will share

the personal stories that have contributed to her

fascinating new memoir Lowborn: Growing Up,

Getting Away and Returning to Britain’s Poorest Towns.

Kerry was born in Aberdeen and grew up in poverty,

attending fourteen different schools while living in

B&Bs and council flats with her single mother. Twenty

years later, she’s a prizewinning novelist who has

travelled the world, and has a secure home and a

comfortable life. But she often finds herself looking

over her shoulder, as if caught between two worlds.

In Lowborn, Kerry revisits the towns she grew up in

to try to discover what being poor means in Britain

today and whether anything has changed.
