Who are the 10bn?
In this opening keynote lecture, two of the University's highest profile academics introduce the demographics, dilemmas and opportunities of living in a world of 10 billion.
The event is part of the University of Sheffield's interdisciplinary programme, Achieve More Level 2: 10bn and is primarily aimed at second year undergraduate students from all five Faculties.
Professor Paul White OBE
Professor Paul White is a former Professor of European Urban Geography and Emeritus Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield. He is currently pursuing research on elite migrants in European cities.
Professor Tony Ryan OBE
Professor Tony Ryan is the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science at the University of Sheffield and the founding Director of the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures. He focuses on the global meta challenge of the food water and energy nexus; feeding a growing world population; reducing the impacts of agriculture and food production that account for 25-30% of green house gas emissions; and harnessing the power of the sun for food production and renewable energy.
