About this event

COVID-19 has shone a light on health inequalities that were a problem before the pandemic - but have worsened since. This is the case across the UK, not least within south east London where health inequalities result in huge variance in health, quality of life and life expectancy in our communities. The south east London Integrated Care System (Our Healthier South East London), working in partnership with King's Health Partners, is committed to driving positive change and tackling these inequalities. But we know we need a different sort of approach; one where ideas and solutions are co-produced with a wider and inclusive group of people who have real experience of inequalities and of community initiatives that make a positive difference.

We know that how well and how long people live can be strongly influenced by 5 key things (we call this the Vital 5). The Vital 5 are: blood pressure, smoking status, alcohol intake, obesity and our mental health. The more we focus on these issues, the more people are likely to live longer, healthier lives.

Together, we will map out the key issues in south east London and what is already happening to help. We will hear from some key experts and people in our community before working in groups to develop, shape and pitch new and creative ideas to tackle blood pressure.

Importantly, we want these sessions to actually enable us to make the changes we want to see; we have identified funding that will be available to support some of the ideas we develop in this workshop to improve south east London’s blood pressure.
