KIDS CLASS: John Piper

RECORDING ONLY

Recording will be available to watch fromTuesday 16th September until Sunday 5th October.

You will be emailed with info on how to access the recording once it is live.

Join Lucy as we look at the fantastic work of artist John Piper, the screen print 'Floirac' from 1968 is a fantastic explosion of colour and wonderful marks that fill the image and make it sing with excitement and celebration.

We will be using watercolours with soft pastels overlaid to create a vibrant and energetic copy of this wonderful artwork. We will finish the class by creating our own improvised image based on this same technique and taking Pipers other work 'Near Newcastle Emlyn, Cardigan ' as a starting point.

Materials You Will Need:

-2 x Sheets of watercolour paper or thick paper

- Watercolour paints

-Soft Pastels or chalks, as many colours as you have!

-Brushes , water pot and tissue

Donation:

For September LDGKids will be donating 20% of profits from each class to the charity 'The Childrens Literacy Charity'. They are a small UK based charity with a big impact, working to close the literacy gap for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Working in primary and secondary schools in areas of deprivation, expert tutors seek to unlock the potential of children who can be up to two years behind where they should be, not just with reading but with all the important literacy skills: writing, comprehension, listening and speaking.

ABOUT THE TUTOR:

Lucy McGeown (b.1986) is an artist and teacher based in Margate. She studied Fine Art at UEL and got her Masters from The City and Guilds Art School in 2017. Lucy is one of the founding members of London Drawing Group and started the LDG Kids classes in 2021.

Lucy is incredibly passionate about drawing and the importance of creativity and play in our everyday lives, whatever your age!

FAQs - Please read these thoroughly so you can be fully prepared for the class

WHO IS THIS FOR?

These classes are designed for ages 7-10 yrs but we have both older and younger students join us. So parents and caregivers please feel free to join children in these sessions as it is a lovely activity to share together!

TICKETS:

We suggest an amount of £10. However, we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on this basis whilst also giving our tutors a sustainable wage.

There is also a ticket option to "Pay It Forward" to support us and our students! We offer classes for free to those who can't afford the minimum amount (If this is you please email us to join for free). This continues to ensure our classes are available to everyone!

ONCE BOOKED:

You will receive a confirmation email and once the recording is available, you will be notified and then be able to access the recorded class via your eventbrite "Online Event Page" You can access this by signing into eventbrite or creating an account using the email address that you booked with.

IN THE CLASS:

As this is a recording there is no chat box active. If you have any questions or comments then please email Lucy via email adress below.

AFTER THE CLASS:

We love to see your drawings or anything else our classes inspire! You can share them with us by tagging us on instagram (@ldg_kids) or emailing us if you don't have socials.

You will also receive access to the recording of this class for 14 days. This will be emailed to you directly after the live class has taken place.
