Keep kids creative with a fun, hands-on sashiko-inspired stitching workshop! Perfect for ages 7–17, this trial session introduces children to sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique originally used to strengthen and repair clothing. Kids will discover how sashiko can turn old clothes into beautiful, functional art while developing patience, focus, and creativity.

What Kids Will Do

  • Learn simple sashiko stitches
  • Explore fun patterns like stars, hearts, and geometric shapes
  • Patch or decorate denim, cotton, or sturdy t-shirts (no thin fabrics)
  • Use kimono scrap fabrics to add texture and style
  • Take home a personalized, upcycled garment


Workshop Details

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • All tools and decorative materials provided; kids to bring their own clothing or bags to mend/decorate (denim, cotton, or sturdy t-shirts; no thin fabrics or polyester)
