KIDS SUMMER CLASS: THE CAT by Ted Hughes

RECORDING ONLY

Recording access will go live on Thursday 21st August 10am and will be available to watch until 11th September

You will be notified by email once the recording is open to view.

This summer holiday Lucy will be pre-recording a series of classes to keep all you children and adults entertained and busily watercolouring for the whole of August!

We will be working through four of the illustrations featured in a book called 'The Cat and The Cuckoo' by Ted Hughes and illustrator R J Lloyd.

Ted Hughes is a well known poet and writer and in 1987 he collaborated with artist and friend R J Lloyd, an artist known for his semi abstract style, which drew heavily from his love of nature and his surroundings in Devon,UK.

The book features a selection of 28 poems, each on one animal and brings so much life and humour to these creatures beutifully illustrated by Lloyds paintings.

In this weeks class we will be making a version of the illustration for the CAT poem, which is written below.

We will be using watercolour paints for this series of classes. Their ability to be thinned and layered will match the original painted style and give us room to create the interesting fractured affect Lloyd used extensively in his work.

THE CAT by Ted Hughes

You need you Cat.

When you slump down

All tired and flat

With too much town

With too many lifts

Too many floors

Too many neon-lit

Corridors

Too many people

Telling you what

You just must do

And what you must not

With too much headache

Video glow

Too many answers

You never will know

Then stroke the Cat

That warms your knee

You'' find her purr

Is a battery

For into your hands

Will flow the powers

Of the beasts who ignore

These ways of ours

And you'll be refreshed

Through the Cat on your lap

With leopards yawn

and Tiger's nap.

-1 x Sheet of watercolour paper or thick paper

-A pencil (HB or the like)
