About this event
Come and join local Living History enthusiast Heather as she brings to life crafts from the Northwest's Heritage. Demonstrating the slowly vanishing skills that went into producing our clothing using natural materials.
Inspired by Heritage Crafts Red List, we’re focusing on endangered crafts. To see the full list of crafts please visit our website
This month's session focuses on Drop Spindle and Nålbinding
Status: Endangered
In this session we will be introducing more Heritage Crafts that are endangered in the UK. We’ll work with wool, transforming it from fleece to fibre using the drop spindle. You’ll learn how to spin a length of yarn using one of the most ancient textile tools.
Once you have your thread, where now?
Heather will introduce you to one of the oldest techniques for garment making, Nålbinding. Referred to as working with the wool in Icelandic, all you need is your fibre and a needle for the ultimate carry craft.
