Event description

Description

Join us at Killhope Lead Mining Museum for a night landscape and astrophotography workshop. On the night of this event, there will be no moonlight, which will allow you to see and photograph features of the night sky such as the Milky Way, weather permitting.

The Killhope site is one of the darkest places in County Durham. The entire site and building will be available to you, for all kinds of night photography.

You'll need to provide your own camera, ideally a DSLR or CSC, although bridge cameras may also be suitable, depending on the model. You'll also need a tripod. It's absolutely fine to use artificial lighting, such as light painting tools, as long as they don't prevent other people getting the shots they need.

You're also welcome to bring a laptop, and whatever editing software you have, for support in editing night and astro images.

In the event of a cloudy night being forecast, I'll do my best to offer additional equipment / activities, but of course, you don't need a clear sky for the majority of night photography.

In the case of extreme weather being forecast, such as heavy rain, snow, fog, or winds, you will be able to transfer to a comparable event the following month, free of charge. I'll make an email announcement about this, either way, a couple of nights before the workshop.

Numbers are restricted to 24 photographers, and movement will be controlled so that you get all the clear shots you need. Once the tickets have gone, that's it. I can't create any more places, because part of the benefit of such a small group is the ability to make sure people aren't wandering into your shots all the time :)

The workshop is suitable for all experience levels. If you've never photographed the night sky (or in low light), full tuition will be given. You'll have assistance whenever you need it from experienced night photographers. If it's a big group there will be at least two trainers.

Your booking is non-refundable if you're unable to come (but it may possible to transfer it to someone else, upon request).

Joining instructions will be sent to everyone around two days before the event. This gives me time to take account of any special factors, such as weather for outdoor courses. Also, as you might appreciate, I don't want to make those details available to the general public.

This is going to be a standout event in our night photography programme. Hope you can make it!
