A last chance to look at the Kilvey Hill bombed landscape before it is destroyed. The walk will look at the surviving anti-glider defences built in 1940 to defend us against German parachutists. The walk will also look at several large bomb craters created in late 1940 and early 1941 when the town was heavily bombed. The bomb craters have been transformed into biodiversity hotspots, which will be lost once the Skyline development is completed. A fantastic last chance to see how the violence of the past has been transformed into biodiversity and regeneration.
Walk leader Nigel Robins has written several books and many articles on the Kilvey landscape and wartime Swansea, and he will talk about the history of the attacks on Swansea between 1940 and 1943.
We will meet at The Glade car park and walk up onto the Hill from there. Robust footwear is essential as we will be on some of the rocky or muddy paths.
