Join us for an unforgettable cycling journey that takes you on an off-road loop through ancient landscapes, rolling hills, and historic landmarks. The King Alfred’s Way Cycle is a spectacular cycling challenge that spans 4 days and covers 220 miles of gravel paths, bridleways, and quiet country lanes. It's a test of endurance, a ride for a purpose, and a unique opportunity to experience the North Downs, the South Downs, and famous sites like Stonehenge and Winchester, the home of King Alfred himself!

- Date and Location: Kicking off from Reading on May 16th, passing throughreturning to Reading on May 19th 2025
- Route Highlights: Experience 10,000 years of history that traverses historic Wessex, connecting iconic sites such as Stonehenge, Avebury stone circle, Iron Age hill forts, Farnham Castle, and the cathedrals of Winchester and Salisbury.
- Route Distance: 220 miles passing Winchester, Salisbury and Returning to Reading, with an elevation change of 11,585 feet.

- Cost: A registration donation of just £25 is the only initial cost for you! Most costs are covered such as vehicle support, route leaders, team cycling jersey and overnight accommodation, leaving you to only cover transport to and from the ride and food during the trip.
- Fundraising: A commitment to raise £2 per mile, totalling £440, helps us fund vital MS support services across the UK and fund research to end MS.
- Accommodation: Embrace the adventure with overnights in community centers, sports clubs and camping, with options for alternative accommodations if preferred.
- Support: Our supported bike tour embraces the essence of adventure cycling, with Route Leaders and mechanic support ensuring you can focus solely on the ride. Rest stops will be provided throughout each day leaving you to only think about food as you go.

Frequently asked questions
We have always prided ourselves in being a charity bike ride suitable to all cycling abilities! Whether you’re a beginner cyclist or an experienced rider, our trip is well suited to you. We can help you with training too!
We recommend riding either a gravel, cyclocross or mountain bike for King Alfred’s Way. This will allow you to have the most enjoyment along the route. Be sure that the bike fits you well and that you have completed your training on this bike so you know you’ll be comfortable for the adventure.
With an achievable £2 per mile, £440 total fundraising target, there’s no more cost effective way to travel. Funds raised will go towards supporting those living with MS across the UK, as well as raising awareness for multiple sclerosis and funding research to find a cure.
With an initial registration donations of just £25, the majority of trip related items are covered such as vehicle support, route leaders, a team cycling jersey, overnight accommodation and much more. This leaves you only having to worry about travel to and from the trip and food during the ride.
We aim for a team size of approximately 20 riders. This creates a friendly, non competitive team environment for all to enjoy riding King Alfred’s Way.
We will arrange the accommodation for the trip, including in Reading at the start, but not after the finish unless requested. To allow us to donate as much of your hard earned fundraising as possible, our accommodations are minimalist.
This is a supported bike tour where roughing it is embraced. Your gear is carried by our support vehicles. Route leaders will be there to help you along the way. A mechanic will help you keep your bike rolling. Water stops every 20-30 miles depending on the terrain. Nightly accommodations booked.
We provide an 80L box that we transport your gear from overnight to overnight and a smaller 16L day box for essential items, accessible at rest stops during the ride. It’s important to be comfortable on your bike and have trained on it. Once registered, we’ll provide a comprehensive gear list.
Yes, eBikes are welcome on the King Alfred's Way route. We understand that eBikes can make the challenge more accessible and enjoyable for riders. However, it’s important to ensure your eBike is suitable for long-distance road touring and is capable of handling the route’s varied terrain.
