King Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Dance Band, Mango Disco, Faye Houston and Mike Shirley at Horatio’s - the Brighton Palace Pier
The Kemptown Carnivals 2017 season of fundraising events launches on April 8th at Horatios Bar on the Brighton Palace Pier with an incredible double act of wild tropical psychedelia and electronic looping genius.
King Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Dance Band are one of the most exciting and original bands to come out of Brighton in many years. Blending traditional African and Brazilian melody and rhythm, powerful progressive psychedelia, and a visually stunning performance, the Flying Swordfish are a genuine breath of fresh tropical wonder.
In town for one night only, the high energy Mango Disco live are set to delight with their vibrant mixture of vintage African and Latin American grooves with modern electro-cumbia, reggaeton and drum n' bass. Fronted by the flamboyant Alex del Mango, this brilliant and ridiculous 4 piece Mango machine are a spectacular feast for world music lovers out there.
The soulful and exquisite Faye Houston kicks of the evening with a selection of her solo/duo work with partner Mike Shirley. Both full time members of the legendary dub outfit Resonators, this is a rare chance to hear Faye and Mikes beautiful and enchanting tunes.
All fundraising is in aid of the Kemptown Carnival!
The Kemptown Carnival is taking a year off in 2017 to transform its governing organisation into a Charity, a move that will ensure the Carnival can continue on an annual basis into the future. During 2017 the Carnival will be hosting a season of fundraising events with a range of gigs and festivities being planned at the Speigel Tent, St Georges Church, Patterns Nightclub, and the Komedia.
