We are pleased to introduce King’s Nasogastric (NG) Tube Train the Trainer Course, thoughtfully designed to equip senior nurses and doctors in acute hospital settings with the knowledge to educate and support staff in clinical practice with both NGT insertion and on-going management.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for experienced nurses and doctors tasked with training other healthcare staff members in NG Tube management, and healthcare professionals responsible for patients requiring nasogastric feeding.

This certification is valid for one year, annual update is recommended.


Eligibility criteria to attend this course:

· NMC registered nurse working in a setting that inserts and manages nasogastric tubes

· GMC registered doctor working in a setting that inserts and manages nasogastric tubes


Overview of the King’s Nasogastric (NG) Tube Train the Trainer Course:

The course consists of two parts, self-study (approximately 4 hours) and one in-person training day in South London at King’s Academy and it’s Simulation Suite Home | King’s Academy | Training

This course delivers comprehensive training that combines theoretical foundations with hands-on training in nasogastric tube management. Key elements of the course include:

  • Extensive Curriculum: Detailed instruction covering all mandatory aspects of NG tube feeding, including enteral nutrition, proper feed and medication administration, daily care, and tube management.
  • Focus on Safety and Compliance: Emphasis on safe practice standards and adherence to care protocols, essential for ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.
  • Instruction by Experts: Courses led by experienced healthcare educators who are committed to enhancing your clinical skills, building confidence, and ensuring you provide the highest standard of care.
  • Self-study: pre-learning materials will be provided two weeks prior to the in-person training day

National patient safety agency guidance: healthcare professionals should ensure that if involved with nasogastric tube position checks they have been assessed as competent through theoretical and practical training
