Event description

Description

King’s College Hospital is a major trauma centre and also runs one of the largest Diabetic Foot Units in the UK.

Kings Orthopaedic Plastering Course highlights the basic orthopaedic principles in fracture management set out by Sir John Charnley in the 1950’s and latter immortalised in his book “The Closed Treatment of Common Fractures” and reprinted in 1999.

We emphasis modern concepts in conservative treatments and techniques and the basic principles of immobilisation, fixation, & moulding. The course is designed for FY1, 2, Core trainees and pre-ST3 trainees who are considering a career in orthopaedics and Allied Health Professionals.

The course will illustrate the management of specific upper & lower limb problems such as wrist fractures and ankle injuries and the principles of Diabetic Foot Total Contact Cast application.

We will allow delegates to practice techniques and advice delegates to come in suitable clothing that they do not mind being covered in plaster of paris.

A consultant led faculty includes trainers who practice plastering regularly, and numbers are kept to a minimuim to allow a low trainer to delegate ratio. The following provisional program illustrates the course day:
