About this event

The Neurosciences Centre at King’s College Hospital provides services to a population of 3.5 to 4 million across south east London and Kent. Neurosciences incorporates a comprehensive range of clinical services that work together to meet the complex needs of people with any of the wide range of neurological conditions. Collectively we offer one of the largest neurology, neurosurgery, neuro physiology and neuro psychiatry services in the country.

This course is a unique opportunity to gain first class training from leading clinical experts at King’s College Hospital, Neuroscience department. Our experts will be discussing about the essential topics in stroke care and also the institutional view on how to manage particular presentations in stroke. This programme will consist of 10 lectures which can be accessed at any time once you have registered. From the time you register onto our training platform, you will have 1 month to complete this course.

The candidates will:

  • Understand the essential requirements of a proper hyper-acute stroke pathway to put such a service in place
  • Provide advanced acute management and secondary prevention to patients with stroke
  • Interpret brain imaging (CT and MRI) of stroke patients
  • Acquire skills to manage complex and difficult stroke cases

C ourse Directors:

  • Laszlo Sztriha: A consultant neurologist at King’s College Hospital, London, where he also completed his stroke training. He obtained a PhD in stroke prevention, with a focus on the modern management of carotid stenosis, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship studying brain imaging markers of stroke recovery. Dr LS was lead consultant for the clinical service at King’s and is currently lead clinician for the Hyperacute Stroke Research Centre at the same institution. He has been principal investigator on a number of stroke trials and also holds a research grant on the assessment of a novel MRI technique in acute stroke.
  • Jozef Jarosz: A consultant neuro radiologist at King’s College Hospital, London. He has 20 years of experience in neuroradiology, and is a renowned expert in stroke imaging. Dr JJ has played a central role in developing training and guidelines for stroke imaging at a national level. He was clinical director at the King’s regional neurosciences centre between 2008 and 2017, and is now co-director of King’s Health Partners Neurosciences.
  • Photis Garipis: Originally trained as a speech and language therapist, completing a master’s degree at the University of Reading. While working in a number of London hospitals, Mr PG specialised in adult neurological disorders. He was also the head of speech and language at Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup. In his capacity as stroke therapy lead at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, Mr PG was involved in the original reconfiguration of stroke services in London. He has been working as service manager in stroke at King’s since 2013.
