About this event

Community • City & Town

As the world was recovering from the Second World War, the first Olympic Games for twelve years could help to bring people back together in friendship, and it was Wembley which played host to them in the summer of 1948. Join Philip Grant, from Wembley History Society, for this richly illustrated talk which tells the story not just of the sporting events, but the part which local residents and Wembley Council played in making these "Austerity Games" a success.

This event is part of “Our Freedom Then and Now: Road to Freedom,” which is a dynamic community programme by Brent Libraries, Culture and Heritage and the Jason Roberts Foundation. Join inspiring events reflecting on freedom today, marking 80 years since VE/VJ Day as part of Future Arts Centres’ national campaign.
