Event description

Description

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Kingston Samaritans.

By volunteering with Samaritans you will help to make a real difference to others and you will also make a real difference to yourself. Samaritans have been a part of the local community for over 50 years with 201 branches across United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Each branch is a mini business with every role in the branch carried out by volunteers. Because of this, there are many ways to help with Samaritans. Volunteers give their time to local branches through fundraising, publicity, administration, prison work, actively listening on telephones, face to face, by email, text messaging and letter.

Samaritans' vision is that fewer people die by suicide. To be a Samaritans volunteer you won't need to have previous experience or qualifications but you will need to be open minded and non-judgmental.

If you are interested in volunteering with Samaritans, please sign up to one of our events on this page. Please feel free to bring a friend with you. You will have the chance to meet current volunteers and ask questions.

We look forward to seeing you there!

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Elspeth House is conveniently situated on the edge of Kingston town centre at the junction of Wheatfield Way and Palmer Crescent. It's just a couple of minutes' walk from the bus stops in Brook Street and about 5 minutes' walk from the stops in Eden Street and the Fairfield Bus Station. The Cattle Market Car Park is also about 5 minutes' walk away.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No - we will have the list of attendees available.

Will refreshments be provided?

Yes - tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided on the evening.

What training is provided for new volunteers?

All Samaritans volunteers are trained in the skills needed to equip them for their role, whether as support or listening volunteers, and are assigned a mentor. The training will help you gain an increased self-awareness that you will be able to use in other aspects of your life.

Listening volunteers complete a training course of eight 3-hour modules which takes place over several weeks. Support volunteers attend a 3-hour session and then have specific skills training depending on their role.

How do I get in touch with any questions?
