Who's in it?
Starring David Hunter (Once, One Man, Two Guvnors) as Charlie, and Olivier Award winner Matt Henry (BBC1's The Voice Series 2; Avenue Q, The Frontline, Miss Saigon) as Lola, alongside Elena Skye, Alan Mehdizadeh, Cordelia Farnworth and Michael Hobbs.
What's the story?
Kinky Boots is set in Northampton in the Midlands UK. Charlie Price has grown up as the fourth generation son in his family business – the 'Price & Son' shoe factory – with which he has had little interest aside from finding a pair of red women's heels. As Charlie grows up, his father expects him to take on the family business, but his career driven fiancée Nicola urges him to move to London.
When his father dies, Charlie is forced to return to the factory, where he finds it on the edge of bankruptcy along with a very unhappy workforce. Not knowing how to save the family business, a chance meeting with drag queen Lola plants the idea that there is a market for strong high-heeled boots that can be worn specifically by drag performers.
Together, they fight to convince the factory staff that this new line in shoes will save them from ruin, and tap into a brand new and lucrative market. Setting their sites on a fashion show in Milan, tensions between the workers fray, forcing them to overcome their prejudices and family feuds and face up to their dreams.
