Join this playful workshop to make your own kite with This House creative in residence artist Jeanne Harignordoquy. We will meet at 5pm after the workshop for a celebratory kite flying session on the common.

About the workshop...

After a brief introduction of kite history and Jeanne's practice, you’ll follow a step-by-step guide to create a beautiful, flyable hexagon kite.

Using bamboo, colorful paper, glue, and string, we’ll dive into the rich craft of these lightweight, joyful structures: part toy, part sculpture, part messenger. Hexagon kites have many variations and a fascinating global history: from Guyana’s large “Mad Bulls” flown at Easter, to Japan’s Rokkaku-dako used in kite fighting and festivals, and even their role in 19th-century scientific research in Europe and North America. These kites are balanced, stable, and offer an endlessly artistic canvas.Delicate yet resilient, they’re made to withstand one of nature’s most powerful forces: the wind.

Jeanne Harignordoquy (she/her) is a London based, Marseille born artist exploring natural elements, textile and technology.

Suitable for ages 8+. Parents are advised to join younger children to help. Please note: the images shown are a mix of Jeanne’s past work and previous workshops.

We’ll be making a hexagon kite in this session.
