About this event

Be enchanted by Kith and Kin, an Anglo-Saxon theatre show, around the fire in the beautiful reconstruction Saxon hall.

Step into the mead hall and join us for Kith and Kin - a warm-hearted and delightfully funny solo show that brings the everyday world of a 9th century Saxon woman vividly to life.

From wrangling a particularly stubborn cow to fending off Viking raiders and preparing for a great feast, this innovative, immersive performance transports you to the lively heart of a Wessex community, where the rhythms of daily life beat strong - and surprises are never far behind!

The show is written and performed by Leela Bunce: "Under moon and under sun, thread by thread the web is spun, each strand laid our path is chosen, warp and weft our lives are woven."

Inspired by rich historical research and performed in an exciting mix of spoken and sung Modern English and Old English, Kith and Kin is a touching, playful, and powerful celebration of resilience, humour, and human connection. No previous knowledge of the period or the language is necessary. Come and listen, laugh and lose yourself in a world both distant and deeply familiar.

Written and performed by Somerset based performer Leela Bunce. Leela has toured all over the UK, Europe and the US with theatre and clown shows. She draws on social history in her work, telling untold stories with humour and heart. Leela is also a volunteer at Avalon Archaeology and has most recently been enjoying learning tablet weaving.

Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to enjoy live theatre in a beautiful historic setting.

"It was truly wonderful." "Perfectly pitched to a broad audience." "Very clever, beautifully performed, great fun." "We learnt so much about those times, with humour and pathos." "Brilliant character, great story, fantastic pacing, incredible performance. Loved the ordinariness and humour." Audience Feedback for Kith and Kin
