KLIMAX Family Hub - Youth and Adolescent Mental Health Awareness Workshop
Event Information
About this Event
The KLIMAX Family Hub, as part of our efforts to combat the adverse effects of Covid-19 on our young people’s mental health and well- being will be hosting a live conversation to help families reflect on their experiences. This event also aims to increase parents and carers awareness of young people's mental health difficulties particularly in the current climate.
We aim to share insight on common mental health problems, how they can affect young people and what the early warning signs are. This is expected to increase the confidence of African families in advocating for support and promptly obtain help for our young people.
Although one in five adolescents live with a diagnosable mental health disorder, nearly two-thirds of them receive little or no help. Fortunately, most of these disorders are treatable, and recovery is possible. By understanding and recognizing common disorders, adults can give adolescents hope and get them the help they need to establish and maintain good mental health.
Our objectives will be therefore to discuss/learn about:
● How depression, anxiety and body image disorders can affect young people.
● The impact of race, ethnicity, religion on mental health
● Common adolescent mental health disorders
● About stigmas associated with mental illness
● The correlation between mental health and substance abuse disorders
● Identify the risk and protective factors for suicidal behaviour
● Learn about the important role of support systems including parents, families, and other adults
● Supporting young people to get help
KLIMAX Family Hub is an innovative platform set for working with the African families and young people in crisis situations. Our vision is to make life better for the African child.
We believe that families can make positive plans for their children if they have the information and the support they need. Whether during difficult times, struggling to manage the children or needing support with making plans for their children, KLIMAX is keen to render support.
Our aim is to offer parents information and resources to improve overall family wellbeing and dynamics—from fostering leadership skills, to start challenging conversations, embracing excellence habits, and structuring our home environments to inspire safe healthy living.
Last year was very tasking on the mental health of younger adults worldwide. Join our panel of mental health experts and vibrant young adults as they discuss race, self-care, and managing mental health with the aim of helping participants build resilience in their personal lives.
