Why attend?

Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of young people and your community? Knife crime continues to have a devastating impact on young lives, leaving a trail of trauma, fear, and loss. This workshop delves into the complex relationship between fear, trauma, exploitation and knife crime, offering insights and practical solutions to help participants better understand and support young people affected by this issue.

  • Understanding brain development and trauma responses: Recognising the signs and symptoms of trauma in young people and learning effective trauma-informed approaches to support their wellbeing.
  • Fear as a driver of knife crime: Exploring how fear of violence, social pressures, and exploitation can lead young people to carry and use knives.
  • Exploitation and gang influences: Discussing how exploitation happens and why Gangs groom young people, within a local context.
  • Online harms and social media: Consider how the current online landscape may contribute to the exploitation of and fear for young people.
  • The cycle of trauma of exploitation and knife crime: Examining the link between past experiences of trauma, such as witnessing violence or abuse, and the increased risk of exploitation and involvement in knife crime.
  • The profound impact of knife crime: Discussing the long-term effects of knife crime on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Successful approaches to working with young people: Exploring evidence-based interventions and support that can help reduce knife crime and empower young people to make positive choices.
  • Reducing fear and building resilience: Examining strategies to address fear of violence within communities and promote a culture of safety and respect.
  • Communicating effectively with young people: Learning how to talk openly and honestly about knife crime, avoiding harmful stereotypes, and navigating sensitive topics like "snitching" with understanding and empathy.
