Event description

Description

Learn (or perfect) your Fairisle skills on this workshop which is dedicated to teaching you to knit Alison’s brand-new cowl, and along the way, teach you perfect Fairisle in the round, with yarns held in both hands for immaculate, fast, flat Fairisle, perfect tension, and no tangles.

The course offers you two pattern options: a cowl that is lined with mirror-image Fairisle, or a Fairisle cowl with a plain stocking stitch lining and this latter option is the version Alison will be teaching you on the day.

The course will cover: knitting Fairisle in the round with the option to be taught the 2-handed technique; chart mastery; the construction of the cowl which is seam-free (no sewing!); perfect Fairisle finishing off. There is also a Sulis scarf, also knitted in the round and the details for this also appear below.

You will need (please ensure you bring this with you or, if you prefer to pick it up on the day, order it from us beforehand):

Cowl:

Yarn A – 2 x 50g balls of Rowan Felted Tweed in your main shade;

Yarn B – 2 x 50g balls of Rowan Felted Tweed in your contrast shade;

Yarn C – 2 x 50g balls of Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK a colour to line the cowl.

Please note: Fairisle needs sufficient contrast between A & B, for example, black and cream or light blue and navy blue. 1 stitch marker. 1 x 4mm circular needle that is 40cm long, measured tip-to-tip (NOT just the cable).

Scarf:

needle and stitch marker as for Cowl PLUS a 3.75mm needle that is 40cm long tip-to-tip;

Yarn A – 4 x 50g balls of Rowan Felted Tweed in your main shade and

Yarn B – 4 x 50g balls of Rowan Felted Tweed in your contrast shade.

Please note: Fairisle needs yarns with sufficient contrast between A & B, for example, black and cream or light blue and navy blue.

Any wool DK will be fine for either project, but not superwash/machine washable wool.

Suitable for: a reasonably confident knitter, who is keen to master or refresh perfect Fairisle. You do not need to have knitted Fairisle before or knitted in the round, but this is a moderately complex chart.

Please bring your own lunch. There are also many local places to buy lunch nearby.

Tea-time treats and refreshments will also be served.

Either book here through Eventbrite, call 01626 836203 or pop into the shop in person.

Workshop attendees receive a discount voucher on the day, valid for one month from the date of the workshop on yarn and accessories.
