Knowledge Cafe: making use of surplus food
Event Information
Description
A chance to learn how London is using surplus food and feeding those who are struggling.
Background:
Plan Zheroes, one of the 15 projects chosen by the Mayor of London’s London Leaders 2011 initiative to make the capital a more sustainable city, aims to inspire food retailers and catering businesses to stop sending their surplus food offsite, instead, donate it to charities who support the homeless and those on low incomes. Maria Ana Neves one of the Plan Zheroes originators will describe how it works in practice; those attending will get a chance to discuss if it will work in Lewes and surrounding areas.
Format:
The event will be run as a Knowledge Cafe and held at Le Magasin Lewes. It will be an informal couple of hours: a chance to discuss how the plan has worked in London and to see if the conditions are right for it to work here.
Who should attend:
A good cross section is needed for this to be a successful discussion:
- On the ‘supply’ side: publicans; canteen managers; restaurateurs and cafe owners; supermarketeers.
- On the ‘demand’ side: charities; churches; councillors; teachers; plus anyone who has, or know of people who have, an interest in using this surplus food.
How to register:
Space will be limited and I’ve had a lot of interest so please register here.
