Event description

Description

This course will discuss the key issues when using knowledge organisers to aid implementation of a rich ‘knowledge-based’ curriculum at primary level. This very practical CPD will consider the purposes that knowledge organisers can fulfil at a primary level and then provide curriculum planners with some principles to guide the selection of detail in knowledge organisers and suggestions for how knowledge organisers can be used to improve learning at a primary level.

The popularity of low stakes testing has taken off since research evidence on the success of testing has become more widely known in the UK. This course will look briefly at the research supporting short, low stakes factual testing before examining how the power of recall for memory building can be harnessed in primary classrooms. The advantages of different testing models currently being used in schools will be considered with consideration of how knowledge organisers can be used to aid effective testing.

Attendees will take away an understanding of how knowledge organisers and factual testing can be used to support the knowledge curriculum. They will also take away a range of possible models for knowledge organisers and factual testing.

Who should attend?

Primary SLT, curriculum leaders and teachers involved in the design of knowledge organisers and implementation of regular, low stakes, factual testing at a subject level.
